Domestic Symphony
Objects and souvenirs we have in our houses are archives of our experiences and memories. In Domestic Symphony, objects and sounds are used to tell histories and memories of the household. The artwork prompt visitors to interact with everyday objects that lie on a table. To create unexpected connections, the relationship between sounds and objects is subverted: a jar plays the sound of a crying baby, while green pot emits dish washing sounds. As the user picks-up different objects a symphony of memories and sounds emerge.
The artwork uses a table towel with embedded reed switches. Several circuits were sewn using conductive threads. The sensors are continuously sampled by an Arduino board and forward to a PC which mixes and plays the sounds. This artwork was developed with Tatiane Mendes (concept).
