Research Projects
View Management and User Interface Optimization for Wide-Area Mobile Augmented Reality
Ongoing This research is a collaborative effort by Virginia Tech and University of California, Santa Barbara. The goal is to improve mobile AR view and user interfaces to providing decision makers in the field with increased situation awareness. Principal Investigator: Doug Bowman Validation of MR Simulation and the Effect of Display Fidelity Ongoing This research is a collaborative effort by Virginia Tech and Brown University. The goal is to investigate the use of displays with higher levels of fidelity, as well as natural and innovative 3D interaction techniques, to allow scientists to view and analyze volume datasets without prior segmentation. Principal Investigator: Doug Bowman Book-games for mobile devices and the book-game go to the school 2013-2014 Jointly with the National Institute for Research of Water, Minerals and Biodiversity (INCT Acqua). The goal of this project is the research and development of new languages for digital book-games with applications on entertainment and education. Grant from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. Principal Investigator: Francisco Marinho Using 3d cameras in cut out animation of characters 2013-2014 The goal of this project is to develop and evaluate a system to speed up the production of cut-out animation for animated series. The idea is to create flexible and virtual manipulator using 3D Cameras. Grant from Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais Principal Investigator: Francisco Marinho Development of new research methodologies for the Interactive Space of Life Sciences 2012-2014 Develop new methodologies to assess learning in the context of scientific dissemination spaces.
